Indian Lake Photo Gallery
A rather blah January took an incredible turn when we connected with Ron Scott of New England Sky Pix! Ron volunteered his time and energy to take some INCREDIBLE footage of Indian Lake, Little Indian and Sears Island! Please check out his amazing work on our Facebook Page Indian Lake Facebook
or Ron's page at New England Sky Pix Facebook.

We are pleased to announce that the Indian Lake Watershed Association's board of directors recently approved monies to fund the materials for 'Manny's Boxes' at Morgan Park, Shore Park and the beach at the end of Clason Road.
The boxes are being put together by several West Boylston families who came up with the idea after the tragedy that took the lives of Worcester Police Officer Enmanuel Familia and teenager Troy Love in early June.
Each box contains life vests, a throwable buoy ring and 50 feet of rope, which could be pivotal in the minutes awaiting first responders when someone is struggling in the water. The first box was recently installed at Rocky Pond in Boylston.
Tara Caramanica, one of the organizers of this volunteer effort says. "Our hope is Manny’s Box gives tribute to Officer Familia and provides a sense of security as well."
We are currently working with the City of Worcester on the logistics. We are very hopeful that very soon 'Manny's Boxes' will be located at every Worcester waterway.

When you see a truck like this in the neighborhood, it is often the City of Worcester Department of Public Works and Parks helping our waterways. How? This particular location on Nelson Place as well as locations at the bottom of Huntington Avenue and Sherborn Avenue contain hydronamic vortex separators that trap sediment and other contaminants before they reach the lake. The city regularly cleans out these units with what looks (and sounds!) like a giant vaccuum on a truck!
These units were made possible by a grant written by a past ILWA board member as part of the Department of Environmental Protection 319 Non Point Source Pollution Grant Program.

Communication relative to removing or reducing the number of personal watercraft on Indian Lake is on the agenda for the Worcester City Council Standing Committee on Veteran's Memorials, Parks and Recreation on Wednesday, May 5th at 6pm.
It is well noted that there are lake residents and visitors who use personal watercraft (aka jetskis) in a respectable fashion. Yet there are also many who operate with little regard for safe boating rules which is very challenging.
It's important to work together to find a solution. There will be an opportunity for public input at this virtual meeting. Alternatively, you can reach out to your city councilor in advance of the meeting.
You do not have to be a lake resident to provide input. Please note that this is not the only item on the committee's agenda on May 5th.
Information on connecting to this virtual meeting can be found at this link: http://www.worcesterma.gov/city-clerk/public-agency-meetings/standing-committee-on-veterans-memorials-parks-and-recreation6

We were recently contacted by a historian from Lighthouse Digest Magazine looking for historical information on the lighthouse on Sears Island. They found a media photo from September 13th, 1931 but don't have the accompanying article. There were 2 Swedish organizations that are believed to have had clubs at this location in this general time frame.
If you have or know of anyone who may have information from this time period that may be relevant to the lighthouse history, please contact the ILWA at indianlakeboard@gmail.net.
Here is the photo with date on the back.
Community Cleanups
The Indian Lake Watershed Association has been organizing cleanups in our local neighborhood for many years. Spring and fall cleanups are the most widely attended. Many of our board members tend to these spaces more regularly. At one time, our volunteers held cleanups every week!
